Situated at the historic thatched house called Bloomvale House, Ballydougan Pottery
has created a relaxing new place to stay. Within its enclosed garden courtyard you
can relax and stay in one of our superb new self-catering holiday cottages. Each has
been carefully and sympathetically restored from fine old listed stone barns dating
back to 1785, into modern comfortable holiday accommodation.
Located in a quiet rural area it is the perfect base for exploring Co. Armagh and beyond, taking part in the many activities on offer or for visiting our many and varied tourist attractions. The bustling towns of Lurgan, Craigavon, Portadown and Banbridge are just a few miles drive away.
Bloomvale House an historic Grade II listed thatched cottage, the best example listed
by Historical Monuments has also been restored to its former splendour. Visitors can
meander through the house filled with a cornucopia of pottery, glassware, wicker
baskets, candles, picture frames, flowers, music etc; then discover the courtyard garden
from which you can watch the potters at work, or sit in the elegant coffee shop, sip
coffee and reminisce of times gone by.
The Linen Barn Coffee Shop enjoys a unique setting at Bloomvale House. In the wonderful surroundings of the restored Linen Barn where once home produced linen was prepared and sorted before being sent off as far afield as New York, you can relax and enjoy fine Ulster cooking freshly prepared in our kitchens using the finest local produce. Friendly staff greet you as you feast upon a choice of breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, delicious desserts, sandwiches or afternoon tea all served on our own hand-thrown pottery. Take time to enjoy a leisurely lunch alfresco in summer in the serene and colourful courtyard garden or in front of a blazing fire during winter. Open daily Monday to Saturday our Linen Barn Coffee Shop will gladly cater for all your needs... breakfast, picnics, gourmet hampers, dinner in your own cottage after a day touring... nothing is too much trouble.
In the extensive outbuildings, again renovated in sympathy with the house, you can
see the skilled process of creating from clay the beautiful shapes and forms that
transform into items of giftware and domestic-ware, the trademark of Ballydougan
Pottery. Seán ensured that visitors to Bloomvale House will have a
truly memorable time - you too can sit at the potter's wheel and be creative!!!
Winner of the British Airways Northern Ireland Tourist Board Award, Ballydougan
Pottery occupies most of the courtyard but the old apple store with its thick stone
walls and oak floors has been lovingly refurbished into "Bramley Apple Cottage"
and the old wheat barn into "Wheat Loft Studio Apartment", a third barn into "Gaskins Grove" and recently the grain store into "Dobsons Corner".
